I just saw a list of famous restaurants chains that have gone broke. I saw my two favorites on that list. My first choice was Steak and Ale, the second was Bennigans. Never had a bad meal at either one. Problem is that in the “old days” you got better service in most restaurants, now it’s a crap shoot.
I have seen reviews on some restaurants that were good and when I ate there is was so-so or bad. I am not particular so it must have been the wait staff that made the difference.

I loved Steak and Ale. Always good food.
In NC we had a Darryl's. It was the best. I miss that place. They served a type of cracker like bread with ranch when you first sat down, and it was the best. Their ribs were pretty awesome too.

Loved S&A back in the day. Who's gonna miss Fuddruckers lol?
Has anyone been to Cava(purchased Zoe's) in KW? When Zoe's first opened it I really liked them. You could get a half chicken with that harissa sauce, nice salad, and tumeric rice.

I agree with S & A, and I think we all will. We ate at the one in Humble all the time, and I mean all the time, AND the one at Richmond and 610 when at the office. I forget the price of a steak and salad bar for lunch, but i remember adding it up and it was close to a fast food value meal, was awesome. I miss Texas Tumbleweed too, as a youngster, before I got my license (had to be 13/14 as I got my hardship license at 15) my dad would let me drive his car to Humble (we lived in Indian Shores in Crosby) to get him and his buddy a Steak and Peach Cobbler from TT after golf it they won $. Then, a couple of years later, my best friend was the cook, his mom was the top mgr, my gf worked them, yada, hung out there ALOT. But...we still went to S & A even though we got 50% off at TT (and alot times free). Bennigans was ok, not great. But it was date night for alot of us as there wasn't much else to choose from.

As a teen, we'd drive to Greenspoint quite a bit to eat there, or a place called Fajitas right next to it. Also, we I worked for a company put up canvas awnings in highschool, we did Red Lobsters, Fuddruckers, and Bennigans mostly. I was known to be the one that could talk themn into a free meal while installing/repairing their awning, had lots of Fuddruckers back then.

Ain't got nothing going for them except the Cheddar Biscuits (which are frigging good).

Joes was terrible, I never got while people liked that place. And amazing no one has rented their old building next to Saltgrass. What a great location, and it's been empty for atleast a couple years.

The cheddar bay biscuits are great. You can get them at the grocery store now and make them at home.
Joes always sucked. They smoked inside and the smell at the one in Humble was stale cigarettes. Just beyond gross, but that Chilis is still over there in business and I am not sure it has been cleaned since the early 90's.

And the only good Joe I know has the last name of Montana.

Steak and Ale.....I don't believe I ever ate at one, or if I did, it was only once. Girl I dated in while in college thanked me for never taking her there. She said the guy she dated before me took her there all the time. LOL. Used to go to Bennigan's frequently, Birraporetti's, Chelsea Street Pub. There used to be one of the best Chinese restaurants in Houston over by the Dome - Lee's Den. Wasn't gourmet, just good Chinese food. The Strawberry Patch was another, on Westheimer. Down in the Montrose area was Spuds U Like, Marini's Empanada House, The Happy Buddha and a whole lot more.

We have a lil happy hour crowd in the bar that hangs out. We do know it's not the best, we give the 2 bartenders a hard time about it and use it in humor. Last time I was in there I ordered steak fajitas and they brought me chicken, the bartender goes "atleast it's Fajitas, guy over there ordered a hamburger and they brought him wings" lol. They have certain items that are pretty good, steak nachos (maybe the best around), HB's are decent, wings are good, chicken crispers are good, Fajitas are decent, and their SouthWestern eggrolls are sooo good. Order the Trio, get 2 portions of egrolls, and 1 wings, a couple of cold beers, it's a good dinner.
