Well, hubby and I leave for our fun road trip this coming friday. Someone here, maybe you, Fallon, suggested Natchez. We will be there next Sunday and Monday, and when I was researching I saw these incredible home tours! share pictureHas anyone gone to these or know if someone who did? In the brochure they have rotations, and I can't quite figure out how that works. Natchez is about five and a half hours away, so if we really love this we can do it again next year. Maybe they have home tours in the fall or around the holidays.

No but sounds fun. Have fun. Be careful if you take the Natchez Trace through MS -- beautiful drive but several speed traps.

It is like the Kingwood Garden Clubs tour of homes here I am thinking. Here you can buy one ticket and see all the homes, or just pay and go see the homes you want to visit. The weather will not be so hot, so this is a great time to go. I am jealous. I love that little town. If they have a ghost tour take it, they are always fun.
Some of the homes in Natchez will be am tours, some afternoon or evening. I love touring those old homes, I would go to as many as I could see. Dh would be in hell, but he is a trooper and suffers for me. lol
I would tell you to take a tour of the town first. If they still have carriage rides do one of those, they guides always have the best stories. The homes in town are so pretty and used to always be decorated so beautifully for every season that people would just walk into someone's home thinking it was on the tour.

Awesome, I am so glad ya'll included this stop and that you liked it. It doesn't get more unique than Avery Island. I bet your sinuses are 10% clear lol. The tour is fun, food is great, and they have alot of merch in their store you won't find elsewhere. Jungle tour is a must for sure. And the history in incredible. Let us know how you like Natchez - never stopped through there. Here is another interesting potential stop for you. Maybe a follow up trip. www.onlyinyourstate.com/louisiana/cat-islands-bald-cypress-la/stfrancisville.net/

Right now we're eating lunch and debating whether or not we want to go to Little Rock at all. We may decide to go in a completely different direction. This is the main parlor of a home that we toured a couple of hours ago. It was really beautiful. paul laurence dunbar we wear the mask meaning

I hope ya'll saw Jefferson Island! I like it better than Avery. They have a cool house you can tour too. Prejeans is devine. Used to eat lunch there weekly. We use to eat at Prejeans until they reopened after the plandemic. The original owners had sold the business and the new owner was struggling to get it together. We always stopped at Prejeans on the way to DH's brother's house in Sicily Island (we took the long route just to stop there). Before plandemic, the food & service was fantastic, but it was horrible when we stopped and the restaurant was nearly empty.
It's good to hear they have improved and back to being good. When we go see the Brother in May (hopefully), we'll stop there for some good seafood.
That's for the update EmmyLou! Glad you're enjoying your trip.

Looks like a great tour! Yea - I would pass on Little Rock myself. But Eureka, Hot Springs, Jasper/Buffalo River area, and the Fayetteville area are all worth the visit. And of course there is Natchitoches with some interesting plantations around there too.

Loving Vicksburg!!! The Civil War Museum is fascinating. I think we spent almost three hours there, admission only $8 per person. We'll be driving through the Vicksburg National Military Park, but first, lunch! Walnut Hills Restaurant is supposed to have world famous fried chicken, and fallon, I couldn't resist the pimiento cheese! Real live southern Pimento Cheese. I'll let you know how it stacks up against your recipe! It was good, but yours has a lot more flavor. Not sure what kind of sausage that is, but it was good. Fried chicken was good. I had wanted a stuffed pepper, but they were out. BEST COLESLAW I'VE EVER HAD! The Civil War museum is owned by a black guy who is there to answer questions. Very nice, and you can tell the museum is a lifelong project. I liked his mission statement so much that I took a pic. A few other pics: Cast iron pots and pans look like they could be used today!

Oh that lunch looks fabulous! I love good cole slaw!
Oh wow, totally love that mission statement and those tear catchers! I have never heard of them before, and I have toured so many civil war sites in VA! Love learning something new. Going to stop by there at the end of May when we head to NC. Thanks for this information!!
