As the paid for peaceful protests take another pause we now turn back to train wreck season.

I wouldn't have driven through that smoke unless I knew what was on that train. Granted the really bad stuff is supposed to have double walled cars, but no way I would drive through that with the windows up or not. I would have take a 2 hour detour first.

And in other news it's a cardinal sin to shoot a crazy destructive dog and nasty old goat, but late term murders and kids cutting off body parts is cool.

OMG Noem needs to give her ego a rest. Why on earth did she feel she needed to write a book now? She is following the Obama playbook. That alone surprised me. She is a good gov in SD. However, I think she let her ego run wild with even thinking it was time for a book about herself.
In the process of writing said book, no one told her to not put in the killing the dog and goat part? Not one editor? Not a friend? Not a spouse? Not even someone that hates her? They all said hell yes, put that in there for sure.
I know ranchers handle things and get things done. My dh used to trap for money on the side in High School. I have to tell him never to go into details about what he did. He did this once at a party right before we got married. Someone asked him what you did if an animal was alive when he checked the traps. He happily explained. He didn't think anything of it, because he had done this so many times. The shock and horror of so many as he went into detail. 🤦♀️ He was genuinely shocked they were shocked. I had to ask him not to tell that story to anyone ever again so people wouldn't mistake him for a serial killer.
Her political acumen can't be this nonexistent. Either that or her ego is ruling her.
She shot her own self in the foot on this one, and somewhere that dog she hated is looking down on her and thinking, in your face bitch.

There are things you have to do in the farm and ranch life that aren't pretty. You don't put shooting animals in a book..ever. It's beyond ignorant.

Sometimes you don't have a choice. It looks like he's on a bridge or upper road over a ravine. If traffic is behind & in front of him, all he can do is move forward.
Going through smoke is easy - roll up all window, put the AC in recirculate mode and keep on moving.
We've had to drive through smoke before - had no problem. I know we had to drive through heavy smoke from a range fire in either Colorado or Tennessee - I can't remember that far back. But we couldn't see the cars in front of us - just the red of the brake lights. It was scary, but no one wrecked ahead of us - Thankfully!!!

She shot her own self in the foot on this one, and somewhere that dog she hated is looking down on her and thinking, in your face bitch. You are 100% correct! There are just somethings that you just keep to yourself and don't share. This would have been one of those - especially in a book! Like with Obama eating dog when he was young - we never needed to know that story, but it's written in a book that he approved to be published - it cannot be undone or unsaid! Jesse Watters on The Five loves to refer to the dog story every chance he gets & it gets funnier every time he says it. He even repeated it in relation to the Noem story. In my youth before my mother leaving our father, we lived on a small farm just south of Houston. Now it's a part of Houston, but back then it was a town called Almeda & we lived on a street called Grapevine (those are the few memories of have as a 7 year old). We had chickens, ducks and geese and I have memories of my mother going out, grabbing a chicken by the head and snapping it's neck, then wringing the head off. I still have visions of that......but that is how getting food on a farm in the 50s was done. No, I would never write the complete details in a book & I should not have written it here, but that was done by my mother, not me, so I can run for VP without shame!
I don't understand why the people of today feel that everything done in the past is horrible. By today's standards it is, but people did what they had to do to survive, to just get by. Noem made it worse by saying she hated the PUPPY. It wasn't like it was an injured or old sick dog that needed putting down - she just didn't like the dog & it got into a neighbor's chicken coop. Kinda cruel to those not understanding farming & ranching methods.

@tweety Bird, Smoke is one thing, if it is a fire from an accident. But train cars carry stuff none of us want to be near. Dh used to be a hazmat first responder. He always kept a bag packed and would have to go wherever they sent him. The things he saw with that and being in a plant explosion were the main reasons he got his MBA and got out of the plants. He would have pulled over and not gone forward seeing something like that. It would be safer to back down the interstate than to drive through some things. He is a chem e, he used to be on a site that made mustard gas, they had little white things on the underside of their hard hat visors. The saying went, if it is red you are dead. 18 years of that kind of thing has made him hyper aware of some things. This reminds me of the people seeing a massive tornado ahead and they just keep driving. People honestly do not pay any attention to anything going on around them.

From what I gathered about the people heading into the direction of the tornado - they were storm chasers. IMO they absolutely crazy for chasing a storm, but then again, I think people bungie jumping or snowboarding/skiing off cliffs are crazy. Same for high altitude mountain climbing or deep-deep sea diving are crazy. I'm not a risk taker and don't do that sort of thing - those who enjoy risks can do whatever they want.
Although, I resent the hell out of these risk takers getting injured and living off of SSI. I had a few patients that were injured for life and the taxpayers were paying for it. One was a paraplegic that DOVE head-first into a pond when he was 20 years old. At the time I had that patient, he was 45 years old and doing well & living in his own home with a live in caregiver. Guess who pays for all of that.

I get the storm chasers doing that. I really don't mind them, they have managed to get some great footage that really has helped with the study of tornados. If you look at one those posted the other day, a truck with a small U-Haul was in the other lane driving along. Because that is certainly safe, hauling a U-Haul in the path of a hurricane.

I didn't see that one. Been hitting here, FB and YT here & there, so missed a lot. I'm trying to get plants planted and yardwork done before summer heat gets here. It's already so hot & I'm so old that I have to work in spurts & rest/drink water/nap. Then I get back out there and work some more. Then, by 10 o'clock, I'm passed out asleep.

You have always been super active, that comes from being a nurse Do things daily, just start cutting back on all you do daily. And yes it is getting hot too early for my liking. We moved a lot of plants over the weekend. I am ready to have fake grass put in my backyard and I want 3 massive pine trees taken out. I just am not spending that kind of money on the backyard. The fake grass put in correctly is over 25K. Each tree is close to 2K because of their size and location. Can't anything be not 2K?
